Jones lived with 4 distinct families, which helped keep her study focused. Jones was awarded the Gatorade track and field Athlete-of-the year award in high school. As a student cellist, Jones was also part of her school's school orchestra. Since her college days, Jones proved to be one of the best hurdlers. She won the 100 meter hurdles at the 2002 NCAA Track & Field Championship. Jones was also a member of the team that finished second in the 100-meter Relay event. Jones was a winner of the indoor hurdles at NCAA Championships in both 2003 and 2004. Jones began her track and field career in 2005 when she graduated from university.
